Clippers avenge 1 of only 2 hoops losses this season

The Martin boys’ varsity basketball team avenged an earlier season loss to Fennville by taking a 52-45 decision Friday night.

The Clippers also lifted their overall season record to 14-2, with its losses only to the Blackhawks and Coloma.
Friday night’s contest was tight throughout, with Martin clinging to leads of 12-11, 25-21 and 35-34 at the period stops.
“We had worked so hard in practice at fixing since of our mistakes from our first game versus Fennville,” coach Brad Moelker said. “We really came out and executed that game plan.”
Carter Hilton  had a monster game with 18 points. Michael Morey added a dozen.
“Carter was so strong finishing at the hoop tonight,” Moelker commented. “When he is attacking the paint he is such a matchup problem for other teams.
“Michael hit some big shots tonight and really controlled the ball throughout the fourth quarter. He limited his turnovers and that had a huge impact on the game.
It felt great to see our seniors get to enjoy that moment. They had never beat Fennville so it was a nice feeling. I was most proud of our players on the bench.  They were totally engaged in every play. The players on the court really fed off of their energy.”
