Clippers’ baseball team forfeits contest to Marcellus

Martin’s baseball team forfeited two games to Marcellus Monday because it did not have enough players to field a team.

“We only have 10 players because of eligibility issues,” said coach Jon Gambee, “and one player left school ill and another player attended an awards program for one of his classes.

“You can finish a game with only eight players but you cannot start with only eight.”

Martin’s next scheduled game will be Friday when the Clippers will play Holland Calvary at Fifth/Third Ballpark in Grand Rapids.

“I sincerely hope we have enough players to play that game,” Gambee said, “because our kids look forward to it every year and it is a game that allows us to highlight our team.

“But we will see what transpires. That’s all we can do.”
