Martin won the “only showdown in town” Friday night on a rain-soaked field with a bruising 28-20 triumph over Mendon.

The visiting Hornets brought in a 5-1 overall record and were tied with Martin for first place in the Southwest Athletic Conference standings.

The Clippers have been unaccustomed to stiff challenges in the past three seasons, but prevailed to lift their overall record to 7-0. They have lost only twice on the gridiron since switching to eight-man football, with both defeats in the playoffs at the hands of the state champions.
