The Martin varsity football team won its first round post-season playoff game on its home field Thursday evening, posting a 53-13 victory over visiting Athens.
The Clippers, who have not been defeated on the gridiron this season, raced to a 46-6 advantage by halftime and coasted the rest of the way.
Martin has been defeated on the field only once since it moved to eight-man football to start the 2019 campaign. The Clippers lost in the playoffs to the state champion, Colon.
Martin this fall has been saddled with one forfeit because of Covid-19 and officially now is listed as owning an overall record of 5-1. Three games, with Marcellus, Lawrence and Bangor, have been canceled.
The Clippers next weekend in round two will face either New Buffalo (3-3) or Camden-Frontier (2-4). Their game is being played this Saturday afternoon.
