Clippers drop both ends of baseball twin bill for opening day

It was a disappointing seClipper Logo_6_4ason opener Monday for the Martin varsity baseball team.

The Clippers lost a doubleheader 7-0 and 15-0 to Lawrence and managed only four hits in the entire twin bill.

Martin had three hits in the opener, one each by Scott Kerley, Saul Altman and Clayton Brenner. Defense was a problem as the team was guilty of committing eight errors.
Garrett Dill started on the mound and took the loss. He gave up six hits and only three earned runs.  He walked four and struck out three.

Caleb Hunderman pitched two scoreless innings in relief giving up two hits, three walks and he struck out one.

The Clippers’ only hit in the nightcap was by Hunderman. They were plagued by seven errors.

Tanner Curry was the starting and losing pitcher. He pitched 2 1/3 inning, yielded six hits, 10 runs, four earned, walked seven and did not register a strikeout. Garrett Altman pitched 2/3 of an inning in relief, gave up three hits, one earned run, walked one and did not strike out a batter.

Martin, 0-2 on the season overall thus far, will not get back on the diamond until Monday, April 13, when it travels to Decatur.
