Martin is just one victory away from a perfect regular football season after yet another touchdown festival Friday night, resulting in a 58-0 merry romp over a Marcellus opponent that was 4-3.
The Clippers, fresh from a 28-20 showdown triumph over Mendon, showed Marcellus no mercy from the get-go, putting 28 points on the board in the first quarter alone and enjoying a 42-0 cushion at intermission.
Martin cruised the rest of the way with a running clock, adding two touchdowns and two, two-point conversions.
The Clippers now have outscored their opponents 376 to 38 for the 2021 campaign and if they can cop a win Friday evening over New Buffalo, they’ll be 9-0 and awaiting news of who their playoff opponent will be. They’ve lost on the gridiron only twice in the last three seasons, both at the hands of the eventual state champions.
It was their fourth shutout and the sixth time they’ve scored 48 points or more.
Word on the street is that Bridgman is a team to watch in the playoffs. The Bees drilled Mendon 45-0 and also are unbeaten.
Bridgman’s enrollment is too high to qualify for the 8-man playoffs (must be less than 215 students). The most likely scenario for Martin is a first round home game against Tekonsha and if they win that game, a home game against the Mendon-Lawrence winner.
