Going 6-0 before the holiday break is quite an accomplishment for the Martin boys’ varsity basketball squad, but coach Brad Moelker insists his charges will not rest on their laurels.
The Clippers extended their early season success Thursday with a 53-35 triumph over Watervliet. They pretty much led throughout the contest, 11-7 after the first quarter, 28-17 at intermission and 40-24 at the end of three periods.
“It is definitely nice going into break 6-0, but as a team we also know that these six games are just the start of a long season,” Moelker said. “Tonight we used our experience to take advantage of a rebuilding team. Watervliet lost a lot of talent from last year, so they have some players getting their first real playing time on varsity. They really played patient against our defense and forced us to make some adjustments coming out of the first half. I thought our guys responded well.”
