Clippers have to face yet another unbeaten opponent

The seniors on this season’s Martin (Onion Kings)varsity football squad.

The Martin football team has had plenty of blowout victories this season, but don’t fall for the notion the Clippers’ schedule has been really soft.

Martin this Friday night will have its hands full for the fourth time in nine ballgames at Bridgman, home of the 8-0 Bees who have scored even more points. The Clippers faced a very good Mendon squad in their season opener, defeated previously unbeaten Brown City, lost to still unbeaten NorthPointe Christian and now it’s the Bees.

Meanwhile, both Hopkins and Wayland this Friday night will find out whether or not they’ll play in the post-season playoffs.

The Vikings, who reeled off five consecutive victories after losing to Wayland in the season opener, now have lost their last contests, to non league foe Kingsford and surging O-K Silver ball club Sparta and they’ll have the unenviable task of taking on league leader Belding, which sports a 7-1 overall record.

The Black Knights can win the Silver crown outright by stopping Hopkins.

Wayland at one time was 4-2 overall, but now has seen its mark evened at 4-4, despite a gallant run at unbeaten South Christian. The Wildcats will be entertained by a Cedar Springs outfit that lost its first four ballgames but since has been rising a four-game winning streak.

If the ‘Cats call pull it out up north Friday night, they’ll have a shot at the post-season playoffs, something they haven’t done since 2013.
