It was a good opening night for the Martin and Wayland basketball teams.
The Martin High School basketball team suffered through an awful rebuilding seson last year, finishing at 1-22, but showed a lot learning and improvement by February.
The Clippers, under the guidance of second-year coach Corby Calloway posted a 56-32 season opening triumph over Decatur Tuesday night. They already have matched last season’s win total.
Wayland scpored seven unanswered points to start the second half against Hamilton to take the lead, but had to hang on down the stretch to claim a 46-42 vicory over non-league opponent Hamilton. Brady Perrin swished a couple of free throws to seal the Wildcats’ victory.
