The Martin girls’ basketball team came up big in the second, third and fourth quarters Wednesday evening to score a come-from-behind 42-39 victory over host Climax-Scotts in the Class D district semifinals.
The Clippers, now 13-8 for the season overall, now move into the finals of the district tourney against Battle Creek Calhoun Christian. If they win Friday night, they will capture their second straight district championship trophy.
Martin spotted the host school a 10-point lead, 16-6, at the end of the first quarter, but gamely chipped away at its deficit. The Clippers crept to within seven, 25-18, at intermission and then used identical 12-7 advantages in the last two periods to overtake their opponents.
Just as they have all season long, inside players Jazmine Hildebrand and Cassidy Beazley did most of the damage offensively for Martin. Hildebrand, a junior, dropped in 16 points and hauled down 13 rebounds. Beazley scored 10 points and came up with a dozen caroms.
Taylor Curry also chipped in six points, four steals and six rebounds.
Sydney Macomber had 11 points, including three threes, for Climax-Scotts.
