
Sophomore sensation Veyda Conley had another good day on the track as she led the Martin girls to a couple of Southwest Athletic Conference dual meet victories Wednesday.
The Clippers defeated Lawton 73-60 and Delton Kellogg 77-56. The Martin boys, however, lost both of its encounters, 86-42 to Delton and 64-58 to Lawton, despite senior Alex Morin’s heroics with four victories.
Conley’s talent in distance races shined through. She won the 1600-meter run in 5:37.67 and took first place handily in the 3200 at 12:29.73. Even better was that teammates Allison Rodgers and DuRae Page, both freshmen, took second and third places in the 3200.
Conley joined forces with Rodgers, Page and Kayden Jager to win the 3200-meter relay handily by almost 48 seconds.
Sara Schipper, only a sophomore, took first in the 400-meter run in 1:07.11 and she joined Conley as a double winner by taking the 800 in 2:51.2.
Ellyse Blackburn, Emily King, Schipper and Torryn Harris won the 800-meter relay in 1:57.51. Schipper, Harris. King and Kayden Jager hooked up to cross the line first in the 1600-meter relay in 4:43.69.
For the boys, senior Alex Morin captured first in the 800 with a time of 2:16.84, the 1600 in 5:21.67 and 3200 in 11:43.45. Morin also anchored the winning 3200-meter relay, running with Jadon Dettmann, Hunter Hayes and Jeremiah VanHouten in 9:41.05, about 22 seconds faster than the tune-up foursome.
