Decatur delays Martin’s post-season grid playoff hopes

Decatur shut out clippershiplogo_withtextMartin Friday 22-0, putting the Clippers’ hopes of qualifying for the 2016 MHSAA Division 8 playoffs back at least one more week.

It was a defensive struggle for both teams and the Raiders won out, holding Martin to 129 total yards while running up 309 on their side of the ball.

Bradley Mroczek scored all three Raider touchdown, one on a pass play and two rushing,

Mroczek scored touchdowns in the first, third and fourth quarters. He scored the game’s first points with just 46 seconds left in the opening quarter when quarterback Eric Mroczek threw a 15 yard touchdown pass to him in the end zone. Mroczek scored the game’s second touchdown with a four-yard run in the third quarter, capping a 66-yard, seven-play drive to open the second half.

Mroczek’s final touchdown came with 9:39 to play on a 15-yard run.

Owen Flowers led all rushers with 139 yards. Mroczek finished with 81, but made them count.

Martin saw its record fall to 4-3. Martin will travel to Galesburg Augusta next Friday, while Decatur travels to Watervliet.
