The Wayland High School boys’ and girls’ track teams did not score a lot of points Friday at the 16-team Allegan Invitational, but there was a reason.
Many of the Wildcat athletes did not participate because it was the same night as the annual prom.
Regardless, a few of the ‘Cats who did show up turned in noteworthy performances. They included:
- Freshman Gwen Howard turned in her personal best performance by clearing 4-10 in the high jump and took fourth place in the competition.
- Freshman Megan Brogger crossed the finish line fifth in the open 400-meter run with a time of 65.59 seconds.
- Brogger, Jersey Beckwith, Howard and Laney Wolf came in seventh in the 800-meter relay, which featured 13 foursomes.
- Sophomore Megan Stack cleared 9-6 in the pole vault to capture 10th place.
- Junior Dylan Pallett turned in his season best time at 4:43.43 in the 1600 meters to take seventh place.
- Freshman Alex Hubbard finished 10th the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 46.56 seconds.
- Freshmen Gavin Howard and Justin Springs both cleared 5-3 in the high jumps to take 13th and 14th places, respectively.
- Springs leaped 18-1.5 to take fifth in the long jump.
- Henry Maass, Jake Reeder, Jacob Crater and Springs took fourth in the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:37.43.
- Pallett, Xander Stepek, Hoeard and Alberto Mandujuano hooked up for seventh place at 9:11.26 in the 3200-meter relay.
