Wyoming defeated the Wayland boys’ varsity bowling team 22.5 to 7.5 Monday at Spectrum Lanes in Grand Rapids.

In the first Baker game, the Wildcats lost 166-157, but they bounced back to take the second Baker 172-138. Since they also took total for the Baker games, they found themselves in their first lead of the season, 6-4. But the lead was short lived.

Individual games proved much tougher, as the first three bowling spots opened 35 times out of 60 frames.

“You simply cannot open over half of your frames and expect to win any points (we did fortunately take one of those points),” said coach Sherry Miklusicak.

In game one, Dylan Roberts bowled a 176 game but ran into an opponent who had the high game of his career. Dylan Smith posted a 179 game but was bested as well. Game two featured high scores by Dylan Roberts 179 and Dylan Smith 167, but both points were lost.

Two of Wayland’s points in the last match were lost by less than 8 pins total and another game was a tie.

“I like to try to find some positive things in every event, and tonight I found myself having faith in bowlers number four and number five,” Miklusicak said. “I see a young number three bowler developing and gaining experience and expect him to keep improving. I am also looking forward to gaining a needed veteran bowler on Saturday who will be returning to the lineup!”

The Widlcats have a busy week ahead with matches Wednesday at Airport Lanes, and tournaments Friday at Eastland Bowl and Saturday at Westgate.
