Dillon Smith Wednesday afternoon rolled games of 259 and 257, taking both of his points, but the Wayland boys’ varsity squad dropped a 22-8 verdict to O-K Gold Conference opponent Wyoming.
Smith’s two-game series of 516 places him fifth in the state of Michigan in all MHSAA divisions.
His performance also set a school record for two games, eclipsing Cameron Heintzelman’s 491 rolled in 2015.
“We are so happy for him and proud,” said coach Sherry Miklusicak. “Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough for our guys to pull out the win.”
Wayland took the first Baker game and almost took the second. Early on the Wildcats were ahead 6 points to 4. The only two points claimed after the Baker games were Smith’s.
“Wyoming is a tough team who’s men averaged 200 tonight,” the coach commented. “That is hard to beat.”
Wayland girls managed to tie with the Wyoming Wolves without senior anchor Amber Beggs who was ill. The final score was 15-15.
