Eggleston withdraws candidacy for Saugatuck post

Wayland City Manager Joshua Eggleston has withdrawn from consideration as a finalist for the open manager’s post for the City of Saugatuck.

Eggleston, who has been city manager at Wayland for the past six years, was among the final four candidates as reported earlier this month.

The person elected will succeed City Manager Ryan Heise,, whose departure has been somewhat controversial.

Mayor Lauren Stanton said the other three are William Joseph, former village manager of Paw Paw; Michael Sheahan, who has served in the United States Coast Guard for 21 years , and Ryan Cummins, currently interim city manager in Saugatuck, who joined the city in September 2022 as director of planning, zoning and project management. Cummins is serving as acting city manage.

The Holland Sentinel said a press release announced Heise’s resignation Feb. 27, citing “personal reasons” and “opportunities for professional development.” The Sentinel then reported that Heise agreed to resign in exchange for nearly $100,000.
