Evie Mathis clears 12-3.5 in indoor pole vault

Wayland High School junior Evie Mathis, daughter of Rick and Cindy Mathis of Wayland,  competed at the University of Michigan High School Showcase in Ann Arbor this past weekend in the pole vault. She made every bar on her first attempt through 12’3.5″ and placed second overall, just below her season best of 12’6″ she set at Grand Valley State University’s, Michigan Indoor Track Series Meet #1 on Dec.7, 2024

The indoor track season is not officially sponsored by Wayland Union, so her performances do do not count toward school records. Nonetheless she owns the current WHS school pole vault record at 12 feet even, which she cleared at last year’s state track meet. She has finished runner-up in the state meet twice.
