Wayland High School graduate Missy Ritz-Johnson has been named head varsity volleyball coach at Byron Center High School.

No stranger to sports or coaching, Ritz-Johnson starred in volleyball, basketball and softball in her prep career at Wayland before graduating in 1988. She is a member in good standing in the coaching family that includes sister Cheri, Jessie and Brittini Merchant and Nicole Cardosa.

Coach Ritz-Johnson has extensive experience as a varsity head coach, most recently at Caledonia, and has coached club volleyball for many years as well. She now is a resident of Byron Center.

“We are super excited that she will be leading our program and look forward to continued success on the court,” the Byron Center Schools’ press release stated.
