Freshman pitcher Mallory Teunissen was named to the all-conference team for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference and was selected as WHAC Newcomer of the Year.
Teunissen, a 2015 Wayland High School graduate and all-state pitcher for the Division 2 state champion Lady Wildcats, is the No. 2 hurler for Davenport, which has concluded its regular season with a 35-10 overall record and third straight league title with a 15-3 mark.
The Panthers had eight players recognized for their play during the 2016 season, led by junior pitcher Emily Maves (Tecumseh, Mich.), who was named WHAC Pitcher of the Year. Head coach McCall Salmon earned WHAC Coach of the Year honors as the Panthers won their third-straight WHAC title.
Maves repeated as the top pitcher in the conference, while also being named First Team All-WHAC, following her season in which led the WHAC in earned run average (1.58), strikeouts (234), and opposing batting average (.179). Maves threw 20 complete games to earn a conference-best 19 wins in the circle and helped lead the Panthers to the outright WHAC regular season championship. Teunissen joined Maves as a first team All-WHAC pitcher behind a 15-5 record. She finished second in the conference in strikeouts (107), third in opposing batting average (.254), and fourth in earned run average (2.37). She added to her honors with a selection to the WHAC All-Defensive team as she recorded 35 assists and seven putouts from the circle without an error
Maves and Teunissen combined to help rank DU atop the WHAC in team ERA (2.01), opposing batting average (.220) and strikeouts (345).
