No fewer than five Wayland and Hopkins High School graduates are playing basketball at Cornerstone University this winter.
Former Wildcat standouts Cory Ainsworth and Carter Nyp have played major roles in the Golden Eagles’ season, in which they are 15-8 overall and 9-4 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Conference (WHAC).
Ainsworth, a 6-8 junior, is the second leading scorer at 14.9 points per game, he leads the squad in field goal percentage with .614 and is the second leading rebounder.
Nyp, a 6-9 senior, is the team’s leading rebounder with 6.8 per game and the third leading scorer at 13.0.
The Cornerstone women are struggling again this year with a 3-17 overall record and 1-11 in the WHAC.
Freshman Stephanie Ainsworth, a 6-3 center, has a .464 FG percentage and has made 24 of 28 free throws for .857. She is tied for team lead in blocks with nine.
Hopkins High School grad Kennedy Helderop, a sophomore point guard. Is third on the team in scoring at 7.8 PPG, leads team in rebounding with 4.2 per game, and leads team in assists and steals.
Freshman Parrish Hudson has seen limited action and is averaging 1.4 PPG.
