Wayland High School graduate Kayla Merice had really good weekend at Lake Forest College in Illinois.
Merice, a junior, affectionately known as “Boots” while she was a Wildcat catcher, is a key member of the Alma College Super Regional championship squad that swept a doubleheader Saturday with the host squad.
The Scots, coached by Denny Griffin, now advance to the NCAA Division III national championships in Salem, Va., to take on No. 1-ranked Tufts University at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21.
Merice, the Scots’ starting catcher, is shown here with parents David and Shana Donahue Merice, and the championship trophy.
