Davenport University junior outside hitter Krissy Dill, a former all-stater for Wayland High School, set the school’s single-game record for kills by notching 25 in the 3-2 win over the University of Saint Fraincis (Ill.) as DU started its 2016 campaign 2-0 in Chicago.
The Panthers followed their opening comeback win over the Fighting Saints with a 3-0 win over Roosevelt to give DU a perfect start to its 2016 season.
The Panthers dropped their first set against Saint Francis before splitting the next two to leave them staring at a 2-1 deficit heading into set four. The Panthers would take a set four by opening a six-point run to pull away from a narrow 8-7 edge on their way to a 25-20 match victory. The Panthers had to fight back from a 7-6 deficit in set five to fight to a 15-13 win as a pair of kills from Dill helped secure the victory.
The Panthers were finishing their opening weekend Saturday with matches against No. 6 Midland and No. 7 Georgetown College in Palo Heights, Illinois hosted by Trinity College.
Dill was a Division 2 all-state performer along with Allison Getty in 2013, when the Lady Wildcats turned in their most successful volleyball season ever, making it all the way to the state semifinals, when they were defeated by eventual champion Pontiac Notre Dame Prep. She also was a teammate for two years at Davenport with former Wildcat Molly Lameyer, who was named to the all-region team and was an academic all-American, Division II, NCAA.
