Seniors Mallory Teunissen and Caroline (C.J.) Miller were joined by freshmen Abby Merice and Sydney Urben.

Teunissen was a concensus choice for pitcher, having an impressive 0.15 earned run average during the regular season and throwing six shutouts in seven post-season tournament games, including the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.

Miller was selected at second base. She was one of the top hitters on the team and she made all of the difference with a two-run homer in the Lady Wildcats’ 2-0 victory in quarterfinals against St. Joseph.

Merice made the honor squad as an outfielder. She became even more famous in the state final game when she gunned down a Frankenmuth runner at the plate in the Eagles’ only scoring threat.

Urben, perhaps better known last winter for her bowling prowess, was elevated to the varsity in softball because of her hitting talent. She was selected at designated player.

Senior first sacker Morgan Teunissen, Mallory’s twin sister, also earned honorable mention all-state accolades.

The selections were determined by the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association.

Wayland finished the season with a 36-2 overall record and it was its second state championship in the last nine years.Freshmen all-state
