The Grand Rapids Brewers have announced the signing of catcher Ben Barnes for the 2021 summer season. Barnes, who caught for the Wayland High School varsity baseball team, attends NAIA Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids. The Brewers sign a variety of area collegiate athletes to join their amateur baseball season in the summer.
Barnes, son of Gretchen and Scott Barnes, is the grandson of former Wayland schools teacher, coach and administrator David VanEerden.
