Hannah Sikkema to play softball at Dordt College, Iowa

Wayland High School senior Hannah Sikkema has announced her intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defenders’ softball program.

Sikkema batted .333 in 2016 and had an on base percentage of .627.  She had 34 hits, 27 runs batted in with 45 runs scored and 17 stolen bases. She earned all-county, all-district and all-region honors that season and was an honorable mention O-K Gold Conference selection.

Wayland claimed a 2015 Division II state championship and a 2016 O-K Gold Conference championship and won a district and regional title in 2016. Both the 2015 and 2016 teams earned Academic All-State honors.

“We are excited that Hannah picked Dordt College for her academic and athletic future,” said Dordt College softball coach Jeff Zomer. “She currently plays high school softball under the coaching of Cheri Ritz. Cheri is a great coach and has helped Hannah develop into a talented softball player.  I believe Hannah will thrive in the Dordt College community.”

Hannah is the daughter of Bob and Brenda Sikkema of Hopkins.  She plans to study Agriculture at Dordt College.

Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).
