Senior ace Harmony Laker swished one of two free throw attempts with 11 seconds left to enable the Wayland girls to take a 56-55 girls’ basketball decision Wednesday from O-K Gold Conference rival Thornapple Kellogg Middleville.
However, the Wildcat guys lost 68-58 to the Trojans to fall to 6-5 overall on the season while Thornapple Kellogg lifts its overallmark to 7-4.
Both games were played Wednesday instead of Tuesday because of inclement weather.
The one-point victory propelled the Lady Wildcats to an overall record of 8-3 while TK fell to 4-5.
Laker had yet another monster game with 21 points, including four three-point field goals. Sophomore Addie Sikorsky added nine points, Izzy Johnson had eight with a couple of threes, freshman Charity Laker swished a couple of threes for six points and Marissa Ainsworth finished with one three and seven points.
Both Wildcat squads will be back in action Thursday evening at home against O-K Gold Conference newcomer Grand Rapids Northview.
