It wasn’t really a good day Wednesday for Hopkins school record-breaking harrier Todd Henley.

The Viking junior once again did not break 16 minutes for the five-kilometer run and for the first time this season he was not the O-K Silver Conference individual medalist. His time of 16:27.79 at the league meet put him in second place behind Belding sophomore Ethan Rockburn’s 16:22.54.

Henley ran a school-record 16:03 in the Allendale Invitational earlier this month and has had his eye on breaking the difficult barrier of 16 minutes sometime this season. He still has at least two more chances, in the Allegan County meet Friday at the Martin Motor Sports Park and at the regionals Oct. 26.

The Hopkins boys finished third in the team competition, with Calvin Christian taking first and Belding second. And that’s how the final league standings turned out.

Meanwhile, the Lady Vikings captured second place behind Calvin Christian and edged out Belding.

Senior Dan Rausch turned in a fine 17:10.38 to take sixth in the league meet. Zach Nutter was 21st in 18:43.5. Jake Pastoor was 28th and Andrew Hazen 35th, as all Viking boys broke 20 minutes on the Ironwood Golf Course.

For the girls, senior Jasmine Fisher had a splendid meet, running a season-best 19:40.97 and finishing fifth individually. Laura Velderman tooks 11th in 20:17.9, Emma Helder was 15th, Alyssa Beilby 21st and Alexis Zalis 24th.
