Hopkins Middle School sixth-grader Hannah Fisher broke the school record in the eighth annual five-kilometer race May 19.

Fisher, one of 332 middle schoolers who participated in the fund-raising 5K, completed the course in 21:20. She is the younger sister of Hopkins sophomore cross-country runner and track distance runner Jasmine Fisher.

Hopkins students were asked to find sponsors for their run with donations. They raised more than $600, which will be donated to the Annetta Jansen Food Pantry in Dorr.

Race officials reported that many personal records were set, with one particular student improving his time from sixth grade to eighth grade by 15 minutes.

A spokesperson said, “The sixth grade run was quite memorable. Many students pushed themselves to do their best.”

Top fund-raisers were Trent Baugh, Nathan Onderlinde and Jessica Standley.
