Hope softball finishes at 29-11, includes 3 former Wildcats

Former Wayland High School standouts Autumn Anderson and Sierra Mutschler both earned NCAA regional accolades for their individual performances for Hope College this season from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Anderson, a junior centerfielder, was named to the second team of Central Region. Freshman second baseman Sierra Mutschler was named a Central Region third-team honoree.

They and fellow former Wildcat Abby Phillips, a senior, helped Hope post a 29-11 overall record and advance to the finals of the Lake Forest, Illinois region in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Anderson batted leadoff and topped the Flying Dutch with a .460 batting average. She led Hope with 58 hits, 42 runs scored and 23 stolen bases in 24 attempts.

Mutschler tied the school record with 10 home runs and batted .357. Her 39 RBIs were the second most on the team.

Phillips was named one of four captains of the Flying Dutch softball squad. An outfielder, she finished with a .279 batting average with a home run and 18 runs batted in.
