Sabrina Bird of Dorr, a 2001 graduate of Hopkins High School, will be one of six athletes to be inducted into the Grand Valley State University Athletics Hall of Fame this fall.

Bird was an American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American in 2003 and helped GVSU to a pair of NCAA Division II Final Four appearances as a dominent force in the middle.

Bird will join other new inductees Jeremy Dow (Sunfield, Mich./Lakewood), baseball (2005-06); Kristina Nasturzio (Mississauga, Ontario), soccer (2006-09); Jeremy Pearson (Manistee, Mich./Onekama), track & field (1998-01); Jason Trice (Flint, Mich./Northern), football (1995-98); Julie Zeeff (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central), women’s basketball (2001-2004).

The 2017 Hall of Fame class will be inducted at the Hall of Fame banquet on Friday, Oct. 27, at the Kirkhof Center and then honored during halftime of the Grand Valley State-Northern Michigan Homecoming game Saturday, Oct. 28.

This year’s class will join the 143 members previously inducted into the Hall of Fame. The first GVSU Athletics Hall of Fame class was inducted in 1986 and plaques honoring all inductees are on display at the Grand Valley State Fieldhouse upper arena lobby.

Bird last fall was one of the inductees in the first-ever Hopkins High School Alumni Athletics Hall of Fame.
