Hopkins boys and girls rollers both turn back Godwin

The Hopkins boys’ and girls’ vahopkins-bowlingrsity bowling teams both had good days on the lanes Thursday by turning back O-K Silver Conference opponent Wyoming Godwin Heights.

The boys remained unbeaten in dual matches for the season by pasting the Wolverines 26-4. The girls had a tougher road, but managed to pull out a 16-14 victory.

The Viking boys won both Baker games, rolling a 203 and a 187 to enjoy a 10-0 cushion in the early going. In match play the boys won four of five matches.

Sophomore ace Brenden Gossman led the team with a 224 game. Points for Hopkins came from Zach Mohr, Joe Bala and Terry Thomas. The only point taken by Godwin in the first match was a great contest where Drew Osborn of Hopkins rolled a 203 but was beaten by Derrick LaMange’s 224.

Hopkins took total pins with a 933 to Godwin’s 766. In the second match Hopkins managed to take two points on Chris Tortorelli’s 134, and Ryan Hoeksemas 213. Hopkins took total pins of the matches to win 26-4.

Mike Shoemaker lost a close one in the second game, rolling a solid 199, but his opponent bowled a 212.

The Lady Vikings took the first Baker game 162 to 158 against Godwin, but lost the second, 138-124. Godwin took total pins and was up 6-4. In the first match play Hopkins girls took three match points with Hazel Smith rolling the high game of the day with a fine 198.

The Wolverines, however, took total pins and still led 12-7 after the first match. Godwin’s high game was from Jayden Childs, who rolled a 176, taking her point in the first match.

The second match the Lady Vikings came storming back by taking three match points again, along with total pins and total for both matches giving them a 16-14 win.

For Hopkins Courtney Tortorelli bowled a 158 and a 169, taking both of her match points. Jenny Rietman also took both with a 139 and a 148. Godwin’s Jayden Childs took both of her points by bowling a 176 and a 183.

The Hopkins boys now are 5-0 overall and the girls 3-2.
