Hopkins boys continue undefeated streak in track

The Hopkins boys’ track team Saturday remained unbeaten in dual meets and invitationals this spring by taking first place in the Catholic Central Cougar tournament in Grand Rapids.

The girls’ squad, though not as spectacular, was runner-up in its competition among 17 teams.

The Hopkins guys amassed 122 points while runner-up East Grand Rapids had 87. The Lady Vikings accumulated 74 points, behind only East Grand Rapids’ 107.

Highlights of the meet:

•Cole Winstrom played a huge role by stepping into the 4×200 relay at the last second. He hooked up with Wyatt Runkel, Gage Martin and Clayton Kerber, and they would win the event in 1:36.72

  • Hopkins boys and girls athletes dominated the sprints.Kellen Ford and Riley Homrich both took the top spot for these events.
  • The same held true for the long jump, with Taylie Burgess and Parker Warners capturing the top spot.
  • Andrea Brower and Clayton Kerber took top honors in their 300-meter hurdlesraces.

Scoring notable personal bests were:

•Kash Moored, who cruised through his 800-meter run in 2:01.31s, beating his previous best by more than a second! He is closing in on a potential early qualifying time for the state meet.

•Logan Kipen improved his 3200-meter time by eight seconds, finishing in 12:18.08.

• Lillian Dewey posted a huge 9 second PR in the 1600 meter time with a clocking of 5:37.85.

1st Place – Taylie Burgess – Long Jump – 15’7.5″

1st Place – Clayton Kerber – 110m Hurdles – 15.92s

1st Place – Clayton Kerber – 300m Hurdles – 40.60s

1st Place – Luke Klinge – Pole Vault – 13’6″

1st Place – Parker Warners – Long Jump – 21’0.50″

Graycin Ingle added a second in the Pole Vault by clearing 12’0.”
