The Hopkins High School boys’ bowling team just missed trip to the Division 3 state finals Saturday by placing fourth at regionals. The girls’ team, however, finished among the top three to qualify.
The top three teams of 16 in the region qualify for state but the Viking boys took fourth. The Lady Vikings, who recorded a 12-4-1 record for the season overall, will roll at state Friday and Saturday, March 3 and 4, at M-66 Lanes in Battle Creek.
Star sophomore roller Brenden Gossman also just missed a tip to state individual competition by finishing 11th when only the top 10 of 80 bowlers qualify. He missed the cut by just 14 pins. Teammate Terry Thomas did qualify for the individual competition.
Gossman and the Hopkins boys, who finished at 13-2-1 overall for the season, competed in the state finals last year. The Vikings were co-champions in the O-K Silver Conference this year.
You do realize the hopkins girl’s bowling team qualified for the state finals! Also Terry Thomas from Hopkins bowling team qualified for the individual finals!

Wow, way to take away from the kid the article was about.
If you have info to share, send it to the reporter. I am sure he highlighted Brenden Gossman because he has been on top of his game ALL season. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication ALL year to bowl the way he does. Congratulations Hopkins!
What an accomplishment for such a young athlete, I do believe he will be going places in the future! I’ve heard Brenden’s name mentioned several times in the baseball world as well- you are making a name for yourself kid, hard work and dedication always pay off. Keep your head up and you’ll get ’em next year- you’re only a sophomore, I hope the older kids appreciate your presence and the talent you’ve brought to the program!
