The Hopkins boys’ varsity bowling team captured its third victory in as many starts this season with a 20-10 dual match victory Tuesday afternoon over Vicksburg.
The Lady Vikings won their match with the Bulldogs by an even larger margin, 25-5, to improve their season record to 2-1.
The Viking boys bowled a 200 Baker game and then a 185 to take the Baker series and all 10 points. During the first head-to-head match play, Hopkins’ five bowlers bowled a 1003 combined score. Sophomore ace Brenden Gossman bowled a 266 with eight strikes in a row, then Zach Mohr bowled a 237, Drew Osborn bowled a 153 all three taking points. Terry Thomas had great game by matching his opponent’s score 208. In the second match play Joe Bala bowled a solid 178 game but did not take the match, and Gossman bowled a 179 to beat his opponent by one pin.
The Hopkins girls went up 10-0 after the Baker games. Betsy Hyde bowled a 139 for high game of the girls, but was outshot by Vicksburg’s Jackie Kelly, who bowled a 158.
