The Hopkins boys’ varsity bowling team came up with two dual match victories earlier this week after taking first last Saturday in the O-K Silver pre-conference tournament.
The Vikings defeated Allendale 18-12 Wednesday after beating Wellspring Prep 27-3 on Monday. The girls’ meanwhile, split in their two matches taking out Wellspring Monday 29-1, but dropping a 28-2 decision to Allendale two days later.
Hopkins boys’ bowlers took a 10-point lead after the Baker games and then had to hang on to claim the victory over the Falcons. In the second game of the Bakers they bowled a 224.
Sophomore ace Brendan Gossman bowled a 202 and lost to Allendale’s Zac Netzel, who bowled a 258 game. In the second match, Brendan came back with a 174, taking a point from Netzel.
Drew Osborn also had a good day for the Viking lads.
Gossman bowled a 203 in the first match against Wellspring and a 247 in his second match, thereby taking two points. Zach Mohr bowled a 192 in his first, taking a point and bowled a 180 in his second match taking another point.
Betsy Hyde took half a point for the Lady Vikings against Allendale by tying with Brooke Nyenhuis with a 143 score. Hazel Smith bowled a fine 185 in match play, but came up short against Morgan A’vinde who bowled a 198.
In the Hopkins victory Monday, Hazel Smith bowled a 202 in the first match play to take a point. She also took a point in the second gam. The girls started the match taking all 10 points in the Baker games, second match play game and bowled a 215, taking a point.
