
The Hopkins High School varsity boys’ track team swept three O-K Silver Conference opponents Tuesday and the girls came up one point shy of doing the same at a quad meet.
The Viking guys defeated host Fruitport 86-51, Comstock Park 126-8 and NorthPointe Christian 113.5 to 22.5. They finished the day still unbeaten this spring in dual meets.
The girls lost to Fruitport by just a single point, 69-68, but breezed past NorthPointe 76-56 and Comstock Park 118 to 3.
Capturing first places for the Hopkins boys were Jack Estelle in the 800-meter run in 2:02.52, hust 27 hundredths of a second faster than teammate Kash Moored; Grady Johnston in the 1600 at 4:52.95 and he won the 3200 in 11:26.62; Clayton Kerber in the 110-meter hurdles in 16:13 and the 300-meter hurdles in 42.5 seconds, teammate Gracin Ingle was second ion both hurdle events; the 800-meter relay with Kerber, Austin Evans, Gage Martin and Parker Warners in 1:34.0; the 1600-meter relay with Evans, Matthew Guzman, Isaiah Robinson and Kerber in 3:37.86; Luke Klinge in the pole vault clearing 13-8, and Parker Warners in the long jump with a leap of 19-9.25.
The Viking lads already have won the Watervliet Relays and the Hamilton Early Bird meet and are now 3-0 in the O-K Silver Conference dual meet standings.
In the girls’ meet, winning against all comers were ace sprinter Riley Homrich in the 100-meter dash inn 12.63 seconds; Lillian Dewey in the 1600 at 5:45.4; and the 3200 in 12:45.9; Andrea Brower in the 100-meter hurdles in 17:22 and the 300 hurdles in 50.07 seconds; Taylie Burgess, Elliott Vanderveen, Andrea Brouwer and Homrich in the 800-meter relay at 1:52.31; Keith Bonga in the shot put with a toss of 32-6 and 119-11 in the discus and Payton Harshbergher in the long jump with a leap of 14-10.
