Hopkins boys unbeaten in Silver dual meet standings

The Hopkins boys’ and girls’ track teams put the finishing touches on dual meets in the O-K Silver Conference Tuesday at Belding by sweeping their three opponents.

The Viking boys emerged as the league’s dual meet champion with an undefeated record, while the girls’ outfit stumbled only once all spring with a single-point loss to Fruitport.

The Viking guys beat Kelloggsville 103-29, Comstock Park 114-15 and Belding 86-51. The girls bested Kelloggsville 112-14, Comstock Park 122-9 and Belding 99-38.

Highlights from the competition:

  • Parker Warners and Wyatt Runkel went 2-3 in the 200-meter dash.
  • Isaiah Robinson and Austin Evans went 2-3 in the 400.
  • Kash Moored took first in the 800 with a time of 2:03.53. Noah Gibson and Jack Estelle made it a sweep by finishing second and third, respectively.
  • Estelle won the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:30.5 and Moored was second.
  • Sophomore Grady Johnston won the 3200 in a personal best 10:
  • Clayton Kerber took the 100-meter hurdles in 15:16 and he won the 300 hurdles in 41.15 seconds.
  • Logan Kipen, Gasvin Schans, Noah Gibson and Johnston won type 3200-meter relay in 9:01.75.
  • Noah Opolski took first in the shot put with a toss of 42-2.5 and was second in the discus.
  • Vijay DeZeeuw and Dexter Graczyk were first and second, respectively, in the high jump at 5-8.
  • Luke Klinge and Graycin Ingle went 1-2 in the pole vault with the winner clearing 13-6.
  • Parker Warners won the long jump with a leap of 20-6.5.

Viking girls also win 3 times

  • Riley Homrich, Lily Benting and Anna Espana-Morillo swept the top three spots in the 100-meter dash with a winning time of 12.75 seconds. Homrich also won the 200 with a time of 27.27 seconds.
  • Taylie Burgess, Peyton Harshberger and Chloe Evans swept the top three slots in the 400. Burgess’ time was 1:09.38.
  • Lillian Dewey won the 800-meter run in 2:32.76. She also won the 3200 in 14:36.11 and Kaylee Katje was second.
  • Andrea Brower won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.94 seconds and then was first in the 300 hurdles in 51.55 seconds.
  • The 1600 relay quartet with Homrich, Harshberger, Brower and Dewey won with a clocking of 4:34.23.
  • Keilah Bonga was first in the shot put at 32-7 and Ava Ezell was second. Bonga’s  126-0 throw in the discus won by a wide margin.
  • Harshberger, Burgess and Jenessa Tripp swept the top three places in the high jump, with the winning clearance at 4-8.
  • Homrich, Burgee and Harshberger claimed the top three slots in the long with the winning leap at 15-10.5.
  • Freshman Lachlan Merren took first in the 1600-meter run in 5:55.53.
