The Hopkins boys’ varsity basketball team edged closer to the .500 mark for the season Tuesday night by turning back Plainwell 66-62 in a nonleague contest.
The victory lifted the Vikings’ overall season record to 5-7 and they remain 3-3 in the O-K Silver Conference. They have won two straight by less than five points.
The Lady Vikings were not so fortunate. dropping a 43-31 decision on the Trojans’ floor. As a result, their record overall slipped to 4-9. Meghan Schulz led Hopkins with 13 points. The visitors took an 11-9 lead in the first quarter, but were victims of a 14-4 run in the second that proved to be the difference.
Both the Hopkins boys’ and girls’ squads will be at home Friday to take on Northpointe Christian to begin the second round of encounters with O-K Silver opponents. The boys will start first, at 6 p.m.
