The first round of the high school football playoffs was announced Sunday evening for Hopkins in Division 5 and Martin in the 8-man division.
Hopkins will be at home Friday night for a contest against Dowagiac. The Vikings, 8-1, are smarting from their first loss of the season last Friday at the hands of Menominee. The Chieftains will enter the ballgame with a 6-3 record, suffering losses to powerhouse Edwardsburg, Paw Paw and an overtime thriller to Otsego.
Martin’s opponent will be a familiar one, a Bellevue outfit it defeated 201-2 in the season opener. The visiting Broncos’ only other losses this season were to Climax-Scotts and undefeated powerhouse Colon.
Coach Brad Blauvelt commented after the Clippers’ victory that Bellevue had a lot of big boys and he predicted it would win more than a few ballgames.
Martin will take a 9-0 record into the contest after pulling out a 26-24 thriller in the season finale against Climax-Scotts.
