Vikings’ Dahlia Veldhouse tosses no-hitter in sweep

Freshman Dahlia Veldhouse tossed a no-hitter at Kelloggsville over four innings and Hopkins’ offense exploded in game one of a doubleheader sweep Monday.

Rachel Black went 4-for-4 with three runs batted in during the first game, Sierra Smith cracked a homer and had three RBIs, Taylor Augustine drove another three tallies. Aubrey Russell unleaded a triple and Emily Dimock, Morgan Dykstra and Megan Perry each added a double

Smith got the win on the mound and struck out eight batters, yielding four walks and five hits to the Rockets.

Veldhouse walked none and struck out five in her nightcap pitching stint. She recorded an astonishing 34 strikes in her 43 pitches.

Morgan Dykstra had four hits in four at-bats, including a double, Russell belted a home run and Black and Smith both contributed a double. Augustine, Black and Dimock each had three RBIs.

The Lady Vikings came up with 27 hits for the two contests.

Both games were shortened by the mercy rule.

Hopkins now is 8-5 on the season overall and sports a 7-1 record in the O-K Silver Conference.
