The Hopkins varsity softball team ran its O-K Silver Conference record to 7-1 with a doubleheader sweep of NorthPointe Christian Wednesday.

The Lady Vikings won 14-3 and 11-8 to improve their overall record to 7-6.

The runaway victory was in the nightcap, as freshman hurler Dahlia Veldhouse limited the Mustangs to five hits and blanked them for four of five innings. She struck out five batters.

Offensively, Megan Andres and Sierra Smith collected three hits apiece and Morgan Dykstra added two. Veldhouse had four runs batted in and Smith three.

The Lady Vikings had to withstand a couple of Mustang rallies in the opener. They led 6-1 after two innings.

Smith yielded 10 hits, but struck out eight on the mound for the win.

Emily Dimock and Rachel Black both had three hits for Hopkins. Black also came up with three RBIs.

Hopkins’ only loss in the conference came during a twin bill against Sparta, but the Vikings have yet to play perennial powerhouse Calvin Christian.
