The Hopkins girls’ cross-country team was runner-up among four teams Monday at the Middleville Thornapple Kellogg Invitational at Yankee Springs State Park.
The Vikings boys placed fourth among seven teams with 125 points while Grand Rapids Track Club won it with 39. The girls had 34 points to Grand Rapids West Catholic’s 34.
Freshman Laura Velderman again led the Hopkins girls with a third-place finish in 21:24.07. Junior Madison Snoeyink was fifth in 23:16.86, junior Taryn Kilbane ninth in 23:34.15 and freshman Emma Helder 17th in 25:28.25.
Sophomore Ethan Nagel again led the Viking boys, taking 17th in 19:40.78. Senior Michael Heppe was 27th in 20:28.45, and sophomore James Wubben, junior Nick Belka and freshman Dan Rausch went 31st, 32nd and 33rd, all within 15 seconds of each other, with Wubben leading the way at 20:54.47.
