Ex-Viking helps Concordia pull off 16-14 football upset

Nolan Smith

Hopkins High School graduate Nolan Smith (cover photo, hand in the air) pins a punt at the one-yard line to put visiting Marian in an offensive hole Saturday. Smith and his Concordia University comrades, taking the gridiron in the spring because of the Coronavirus, defeated Marian 16-14 in an upset over the NAIA second-ranked team. Smith is a tight end and special teams specialist for Concordia, but was more famous at Hopkins for being quarterback.
