It’s been a long time coming, but the Hopkins boys’ varsity basketball team registered its first victory of the season Tuesday night, 51-45 against visiting Kent City.
The Vikings had struggled with injuries and flu in the early part of the campaign and came close on a couple of occasions before finally pulling out a cage triumph.
Senior guard Ryan Pierce led the way with 18 points for Hopkins. Grant Stevens added 13 points Jake Sytsma provided support with eight points.
Nick Alt scored 16 points and Randy Thompson had 13 for the Eagles.
Hopkins, now 1-5 for the campaign overall, will face O-K Silver Conference rival Grandville Calvin Christian at home Friday evening.
The Vikings will play their makeup game at home against Wyoming Lee Monday evening, Jan. 19.
