
The Hopkins boys’ track team won the championship Friday at the Watervliet Relays, its second tournament title this spring.
The Viking guys scored 85 points to lead the 14-team field. The girls finished second in their meet with 58 points, behind Constantine and Niles Brandywine.
Taking first places for the boys in the competition were: Jack Estelle, Kash Moored, Grady Johnston and Gavin Schans in the 6400-meter relay with a time of 19:12.07, better than a minute faster than runner-up Hartford. Gracyin Ingle, Luke Klinge, Isaiah Robisnon and Clayton Kerber in 400-meter shuttle hurdles in 52.68 seconds. Noah Opolski in the discus with a throw of 127-4. Luke Klinge cleared 13-0 to take the pole vault on fewer misses. Parker Warners won the long jump at 21-0.
Earning runner-up finishes were: the 1600-meter relay team of JackEstelle, Noah Gibson, Grady Johnston and Clayton Kerber. The “Swedish 100-200-300 and 400-meter relay with Jace Hibma, Austin Evans, Luke Klinge and Grady Johnston. The MMR 2400 relay with Noah Gibson, Matthew Guzman, Isaiah Robinson and Kash Moored.
Girls’ meet results
Winning first place for the Viking girls were: Lillian Dewey, Grace Schumacher, Lachlan Merren and Izabella Jordan in the 6400-meter relay, 25:22.06. Keilah Bonga in the shot put, 32-07.5, and in the discus, 125-01, with Claire Fifelski adding a second in the discus.
