Wayland Robotics #6090 finishes 4th place in state

The Wayland Robotics team No. 6090 lost in the final round of the state championship in East Lansing Saturday, settling for fourth place.

The local squad won the field division title to move on to the championship round, before losing a close match. The group has qualified to compete in the nationals next month in Houston, Texas.

A spokesperson said, “We fought hard through the final playoff rounds and came up just short in our second match, losing a close one 511–532. While it didn’t go our way, we’re incredibly proud of the performance, adaptability, and teamwork our students showed on the field.”

Parent Tonya Lyons posted on Facebook, “They have worked so hard getting this robot ready and it paid off! We won our field division and came in fourth place in the championship finals!” 

Team #6090 was the Consumers Energy Foundation Field Champion along with Stryke Force 4-H FIRST Robotics Team 2767 and Calumet CopperBots.

They also won the Autonomous Award, winning their matches 551-406 and 539-466 

Consumers Energy was field sponsor, Consumers Energy Foundation along with DTE Energy Foundation, Aptiv Foundation, and Hemlock Semiconductor.
