The Hopkins girls’ varsity basketball team took over fourth place in the O-K Silver Conference with a 50-42 victory Tuesday night over Comstock Park.
The Lady Vikings pulled to within one game of .500 at 9-10 and went over the even mark in league play at 7-6. They have only one regular season contest, at home Friday against Belding, before they take on Holland Christian next Wednesday (March 2) at Hamilton in the post-season Division 2 district tournament.
Hopkins boy dropped a 51-39 decision to Comstock Park, however.
Meanwhile, the Wayland girls’ squad assured itself of a winning season by turning back Middleville Thornapple Kellogg 47-36. The win lifted the Lady Wildcats’ season record to 11-8 and 8-5 in the O-K Gold Conference.
Wayland girls will finish the regular campaign Friday against Forest Hills Eastern and then Wednesday, March 2, will take on the winner of Monday night’s district opener between Hamilton and Allegan.
The Wayland boys captured a 68-53 triumph over Middleville Thornapple Kellogg for their Senior Night ballgame. The Wildcats now are 5-12 for the season and will play Forest Hills Eastern Friday evening.
The Martin boys’ squad lost 57-27 to Potters’ House. The Clippers now are 5-12 overall and 4-9 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. They will play Galesburg-Augusta next. The Lady Clippers lost 52-46 to Potter’s House and saw their overall season record slip to 8-11.
