Hopkins’ Lewellyn named to all-state grid 2nd team

Hopkins senior Hunter Lewellyn was named by the Associated Press to the second unit of the Division 5-6 all-state football team.

Meanwhile, Wayland senior defensive back Caleb Wolf was named to the second unit of the Division 3-4 all-state squad and senior linebacker Austin Ordway was honorable mention.

Lewellyn was the go-to guy in the Vikings’ potent passing attack as a wide receiver and he came up with a number of key interceptions at his defensive back position.

Three other Vikings, quarterback Nolan Smith, linebacker Bryce Smith and lineman Ethan Gilder, earned all-state honorable mention accolades.

Hopkins finished a quality season, capturing the O-K Silver Conference championship with an undefeated league record and qualified for the post-season playoffs with an 8-1 overall record. The Vikings defeated Berrien Springs in the first round, but lost in the district finals to Kalamazoo United to finish at 9-2.

Wolf was a three-year starter and a wide receiver for the Wayand team that went 4-5. He also was winner of the Louis Japinga Athletic Award as a junior.
