It was a bad day at Hamilton Thursday afternoon for the Hopkins softball team.

The Lady Vikings dropped both ends of a doubleheader, 13-3 and 9-2, and saw their overall season record evened at 2-2.

Dahlia Veldhouse, who was sidelined for much of the previous season by injury, started on the mound, but gave way to Hannah Brinks in the third inning and absorbed the loss. Brinks and Ava VanderKolk both had a double run the opener and Lyla Reynolds drove in a couple of runs,.

went the distance in game two, yielding 13 hits, but only five earned runs, walking two and striking out five. VanderKolk unloaded three hits and Madison Schwartz had two. Brinks and Madison Washburn both had a double.

Three starters were out for us and this killed us,” said coach Amy Funk. “Dahlia pitched sick and couldn’t play her second game and then Maddie Washburn got hurt.   (There were) young errors, too, but we hit well, We had some base running errors as well.”
