Hopkins junior Todd Henley is going back to the state cross-country meet next Saturday at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn. And senior Dan Rausch is going with him.

Lady Vikings joining them on the trip next weekend are Jasmine Fisher and Emma Helder.

Henley was runner-up in the Division 3 regional meet Saturday morning at Allendale with a five-kilometer time of 16:29.77. Rausch checked in fifth by eclipsing the 17-minute mark for the first time with a time of 16:59.17. Zach Nutter was 41st, Andrew Hazen 50th and Jake Pastoor 54th.

The Viking boys finished sixth among the 11 teams in the competition with 114 points. O-K Silver Conference rival Calvin Christian won it with 60 points and Holland Black River was second with 89 and Kent City third with 94. The top three teams and top 15 individual runners qualify for the state meet.

The Hopkins girls placed fourth in the meet with 119 points. Calvin Christian was regional champ with 35, Kent City was second with 54 and Covenant Christian third with 97. So the Lady Vikings just missed going back to state by 22 points.

Fisher finished with a time of 19:56.11 to take 12th place and Helder stepped up to finish 15th in 20:13.42. They were followed by teammates Laura Velderman in 24th, Alyssa Beilby in 30th and Alexis Zalis 41st.
